socially, culturally and economically less developed regions of our country.

Patient Transportation by Snowmobiles - Bingöl
Heavy weather conditions during winter season in Eastern and Southeastern
Anatolia region drastically affect the living standards of our people living
in these districts. Heavy snowfall closes most of the roads between many
residential areas sometimes even for months. Nonsuitability of the
geographical structure and climatic conditions sometimes makes construction
equipments and manpower incapable of opening the closed roads. This
situation causes serious problems especially for the people who are deprived
of general hospital facilities.
Considering bringing forward its available resources in such difficult
situations to the service of our people, AKUT started a pilot study in
Bingöl. Starting its operations in 10 November 2002 officially, and
regardless of the toughness of the winter conditions, AKUT Bingöl team upon
receipt of help calls, reaches the related region immediately by two
snowmobiles available and transports our people in need of help, who are
pregnant, kidney patient, wounded or injured, to the closest health facility
by fixing them to stretchers connected to snowmobiles.

in charge along the pipeline, in winter months. AKUT also gave “Survival”
and “Wilderness First Aid” trainings to the related BOTAŞ teams. During the
project, this team is ready for search and rescue operations along the line.

Campaigns and Projects Supported by AKUT
Blood Donation Campaigns / Since 1996
Every AKUT Volunteer knows that giving life to others is his or her duty
when joining this noble structure, so they start by donating their valuable
blood. The meaning of this symbol is very clear for us; anyone who sees it
his or her duty to save lives, firstly starts to help saving lives by
his/her own clean blood. The valuable bloods of our volunteer candidates
give life to somebody somewhere far away, even before they join AKUT
structure, then, our volunteers become a part of AKUT, and AKUT itself. AKUT
volunteers keep supporting the emergency blood needs while working in AKUT.
Mount Ağrı (Ararat) Climb for World Peace Together With Everest
Climbers / 2001
Together with two mountaineers of AKUT that climbed Mount Everest (1995 Ali
Nasuh Mahruki and 2001 Tunç Fındık), American, Colombian, Mexican and
Singaporean mountaineers invited by AKUT climbed Mount Ağrı (Ararat) for
world peace. At that time, world mountaineering community paid a lot of
attention to this sympathetic project and followed it through the internet
day by day.
Sarıkamış Martyrs Memorials on 89. and 90. Anniversaries / Since
2003
During the Sarıkamış Operation that took place between 22 December 1914 – 15
January 1915, 90% of the experienced 3. Army, pride source of the Ottomans,
froze on snowy icy mountains without even taking a bullet shot due to wrong
decisions and extremely greedy understanding and according to some
resources, 90.000 soldiers became martyrs in this bitter event. AKUT
volunteers have thought that this catastrophe that is one of the most bitter
events of our war history has not been acknowledged well enough and the
martyrs have not been commemorated as they deserved. In December 2003, on
the 89. anniversary of the Sarıkamış Tragedy, AKUT volunteers together with
Prof. Dr. Bingür Sönmez went to the region in order to march the same route
on Allahuekber Mountains and realized this pioneer project with the
participation of other non-governmental organizations that adopted the
project. In 2004, whole Turkey adopted the memorial activity that AKUT also
had a part in the idea pioneering and since then Sarıkamış Martyrs are
commemorated just like the Gallipoli Martyrs as they deserve.
Mountaineers That Had Undergone By Pass Operation on Mount Ağrı
(Ararat) / 2003
The main goal of the project that was carried out through the leadership of
Professor Dr. Bingür Sönmez was to give a message in making the patients
that had undergone coronary bypass operation to overcome as soon as possible
the psychological depression they went through naturally in the period after
the operation, by preventing them to feel in need of help, incomplete,
deficient, bound to their houses in the period after the operation. We
wanted to show that if the people that had undergone coronary bypass
operation, paid attention to their nutrition intake, their exercises, and
the advices of the doctors, they could have healthier, more balanced lives
with more quality than before, and both they and their families could
benefit socially and economically from this lifestyle to a great extent. It
was shown as a symbol in this climb that even the people that had undergone
the bypass surgery could be on top of Mount Ağrı (Ararat), the highest
mountain in Turkey.
Organ Donation Campaigns / Since 2005
We, the AKUT Volunteers, would like to serve the holiness of life, after our
existence in this beautiful world ends, just as we do when we are alive.
Aiming this, the AKUT Volunteers donate their organs. We hope that the
project that we started with the slogan “WE SAVE LIVES AS WE ARE LIVING AND
AFTER WE DIE” will benefit our nation and will set an example and in the
near future, we wish to achieve a society culture much more interconnected
with people caring more for each other’s problems, respecting each other,
just like it was in the past.
Mount Ağrı (Ararat) Winter Climb In Order To Point To Global Warming
/ 2007
We climbed Mount Ağrı (Ararat) in February 2007 with a team of 10 consisting
of Turkish and Chinese mountaineers. The aim was to point to the issues
related to the biggest problem of the world for today, the global warming.
The message was that there are always some measures that each country, each
individual can take and that we could overcome this problem with less damage
only if each one of us does his/her part of duty. We selected the slogan “WE
MUST PROTECT OUR WORLD, OUR ONLY HOME IN THE UNIVERSE” for this climb.
